Claude is Anthropic’s flagship AI assistant, and after using it daily for over a year across client projects, internal workflows, and development work, I think it’s the best general-purpose AI for people who care about accuracy and instruction-following more than flashy features. If you need internet search baked in, or you want image generation in the same tool, skip this and look at ChatGPT or Gemini. But if your work involves long documents, complex reasoning, or building reliable AI-powered workflows through an API, Claude deserves your attention.

What Claude Does Well

The single thing that keeps me coming back to Claude is how well it follows instructions. The admin controls are basic but functional — you can manage seats, view usage, and set permissions. No audit logging at this tier though.

Enterprise (custom pricing): SSO/SAML authentication, expanded context, custom data retention policies, audit logs, and dedicated support. Small to mid-size teams (5-50 people): The Team plan at $30/user/month hits a good price-performance ratio. Teams that do a lot of writing, analysis, or coding will see the clearest ROI. I’ve seen marketing teams cut first-draft creation time by 40-60% and development teams reduce boilerplate code time significantly.

Budget range: Free for evaluation, $20-30/user/month for production use, $500-5,000/month for API-heavy applications depending on volume.

Technical skill level: The chat interface requires zero technical skill. Projects and Artifacts need basic organizational thinking. API and MCP integration require developer-level skills (or a developer on your team).

Who Should Look Elsewhere

If you need real-time web information: Claude can’t search the internet natively. Perplexity is purpose-built for AI-powered research with citations. ChatGPT has web browsing built in. If your primary use case is “find and synthesize current information,” Claude isn’t the right choice.

If you need image generation: Claude doesn’t generate images. Period. If visual content creation is part of your workflow, ChatGPT with DALL-E or a dedicated tool like Midjourney is what you need.

If you need a full business platform: Claude is an AI assistant, not a CRM, project management tool, or business suite.
